The Sumaq Machu Picchu Hotel has created an indigenous Andean quinoa spa treatment… a powerhouse loaded with amino acids, enzymes, vitamins and minerals, fiber, antioxidants and phytonutrients ‒ in the new Deep-Hydration Cleansing Facial with Quinoa to prevent premature aging of sensitive and dehydrated skin. “Drawing upon Peruvian traditions going back millennia, Deep-Hydration Cleansing Facial with Quinoa helps our guests protect their skin and look their best while in the dramatically beautiful Andes experiencing one of the great attractions of the world,” said Angie Clavijo, general manager of Sumaq Machu Picchu Hotel, which is located at the foot of the world-acclaimed archaeological site.

The quinoa used in the treatment is locally sourced in the Andes, the genetic home of the super grain that has been used for its health benefits for thousands of years in Peru and was the nucleus of the Inca diet. Quinoa contains more vitamins, nutrients and antioxidants than any other grain, from Omega 3 and calcium to essential fatty acids, is high in protein and low in fat, promotes healthy digestion and blood-sugar levels, helps maintain efficient heart and blood vessel function, and is gluten free.

Deep-Hydration Cleansing Facial with Quinoa is a 45-minute, three-step treatment that begins with a facial exfoliation and scrub, followed by toning and nourishing of the skin, and is completed with intense nutrition to seal and protect the skin.

In Step One, cleansing and exfoliation are performed with a soft milk of emollients and natural extracts of quinoa, honey, roses and aloe, formulated to maintain the natural balance of your skin. Impurities and dead cells are extracted from the face, resulting in oxygenated skin ready to receive the necessary nutrients and active ingredients.

Step Two is the application of a quinoa and honey lotion that optimizes the purifying action of the cleansing milk and refreshes the skin, leaving it revitalized, moisturized and ready to receive a quinoa and honey face mask. An ideal combination of quinoa, honey, collagen, elastin and karite, the mask assists in activating cell regeneration and oxygenation of the skin, creating a protective film that helps prevent premature aging caused by harsh environmental elements.

In Step Three, a specially formulated deep-moisturizing cream, based on quinoa and honey and enriched with vitamins A and E, restores luminosity and nutrition to your skin. The intimate Aqlla Spa at Sumaq Machu Picchu Hotel immerses guests in the magic of the Andes in décor and design, as well as the treatments offered.  The Spa was created from natural materials, including local wood, and is decorated with eucalyptus leaves.  Guests enjoy a special spa treat ‒ cookies made with oats and natural grains – along with Andean music featuring ancestral instruments including the zampoña pan-flute and quena flute. The Spa makes its own indigenous products with regional ingredients and incorporates historic Inca techniques in its treatments.
