In 2023, spa and wellness enthusiasts exploring Mexico were drawn to its beautiful beach destinations and resorts, as revealed by Spas of America’s annual consumer preference ranking.
Taking the No. 1 spot for Top Mexico Spas in 2023 was Spa Otomi at The Westin Los Cabos Resort & Spa, Baja California-Sur. The Spa at Thompson Zihuatanejo, Guerrero, claimed the No. 2 position, followed by Remède Spa at The St. Regis Mexico City at No. 3. The top five included The Spa at Four Seasons Hotel Mexico City at No. 4 and Ohtli Spa at Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort & Spa in Jalisco at No. 5.
The Top 25 Mexico Spas of 2023 features properties from seven states. Baja California Sur and Quintana Roo led with seven spas each, followed by Ciudad de México with four and Guerrero, Jalisco, and Nayarit with two. Baja California had one spa in the rankings.
Spas of America president Craig Oliver notes that Mexico’s spa and wellness appeal as a destination lies in its spectacular climate, beaches, diverse cuisine, breathtaking natural surroundings, and rich indigenous wellness traditions. The primary travel markets to Mexico are the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.
“In the recently released report from the Global Wellness Summit, Mexico ranks #15 for wellness market size, with a wellness economy of 74 billion,” says Sara Jones, managing director of Spa & Wellness MexiCaribe. “During the last couple of years, we’ve seen many high-end resorts open around the country, particularly in the regions of Los Cabos and Riviera Maya, offering stunning wellness facilities and catering to wellness travelers from around the world.”
